An opening at the Embassy of Afghanistan
The inaugural ceremony was held at 7 pm on 28 October 2019 in the Gandhara Hall of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, New Delhi. Mr Ram Madhav, National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Member of the Board of Governors of the India Foundation, was the Chief Guest; Mr Syed Salman Chishti, President of the Chishti Foundation, delivered the keynote address; and Ms Somaia Ramish, President of the Naw Andeshan Cultural-Social Organization, Herat, was the Guest of Honour.
The programme began with the national anthems of India and Afghanistan, and a verse from the Gitanjali was recited in English and Persian by Prof. Syed Akhtar Husain and Ms Mozgan Movahed Osmani. H.E. Mr Tahir Qadiry, Chargé d’Affaires of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to India, welcomed the guests, speaking of the deep-rooted relations between India and Afghanistan — a conference that, besides bridging Herat and Ajmer, bridged the modern world and Sufism.
